ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Born Manfred von Steiner, Austria, 1951.
Master of Fine Art, University of Vienna.
In his second year of high school, Steiner won first prize in the young achiever's award of Austria.
After finishing high school, to refine his art he enrolled in the Glass Fach School, Tirol, Austria.
At the age of sixteen, he was the winner of the Nation-wide competition to design the stain glass window in the Stephansdom Cathedral of Vienna.
In 1968 Steiner enrolled at the University of Vienna, after encouragement from Professor Fuchs, Austria's most celebrated artist, he completed a Masters Degree in Fine Art. During the arduous five year course, Steiner had numerous exhibitions around Europe, the major exhibitions being:
1969 - Franz Wagner Gallery, Vienna
1970 - Bundes Gallery, Salzburg
1970 - Bundes Gallery, Linz
In 1973 Steiner received his well earned Master's Degree in Fine Art that began his full time career.
His commissions took him all around Europe including, West Germany, Holland, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and the Vatican City.
In 1973 Steiner was also commissioned by the Austrian Educational Television Network Inc. in Vienna, for a series of eight 30 minute educational programmes "The Art of Stained Glass" by Manfred Steiner.
In 1976 Steiner moved to Australia to marry. Lee Ann's birth place, Broken Hill, was their home for many years before they eventually moved to settle on the Gold Coast in 1993, raising their two children, Christian and Britt. Here Steiner met and associated with other famous artists including Hoppy Hopgood, Jack Absalom, Albert Woodroffe, Howard William Steer, Hugh Schulz, and Pro Hart.
Steiner's versatility and inspiration are derived from numerous subjects which include, bird life, the outback, historic buildings, landscapes and his passion - Australian wildflowers for which he is renowned for. Steiner has recently formed an international co-op with fellow artist Mike Ambrose, entitled "The Brushmen from Oz", exporting their art to the world.
His work can be found in many private and corporate collections including, The Hoppy Hopgood Gallery, Pro Hart's Ant Hill Gallery, B.C. Fine Art Gallery and also David Jones Pty. Ltd. Australia.
